Commode Mattheüs

Sort: furniture design
Materials: pine, fir, birch and poplar wood. Paint
Oktober, 2014

This piece of furniture I designed and built in honor of the newly born Matthijs Zewald. The design is inspired by 60's style furniture and features a set of large drawers and a curved revolving door with pockets on the inside that fit winebottles (baby's grow up). I used a variety of soft woods for their individual beautifull grain and processability. The structural parts of the commode are sawn out of solid pine wood. The drawers and their handgrips are made of 9mm thick birch plywood. They are cut by laser, fixed and finished by hand, thus combining high- tech and craft work. As finishing touch a medaillion with name engraving was placed in the edge of the top.
